Seals

On or near what continents to seals reside?

Describe a seal’s habitat.

What kind of food do seal’s eat?

What animals live similar lifestyles to seals?

How many different types of seals exist?

What type of climate to most seals live in?

Are there any precautions being made to ensure that seals don’t go extinct soon?

Revised Nutrition I Poem

I am one who makes up everything you eat.
I wonder how many times people are going to pick up something made of more of my bad parts than good.
I hear the opening of many food packages aisle after aisle.
I want everyone to understand how versatile I am.
I am one who makes up everything you eat.

I pretend that my fats and oils don’t even exist.
I feel that my fruits and veggies are my best assets.
I touch many people’s lives every day, if you just let me.
I worry that people don’t understand how important I am.
I cry when I think about all the people don’t even know what I am.
I am one who makes up everything you eat.

I understand there is a direct correlation between the Food Guide Pyramid and Nutrition labels.
I say that variety is the spice of life and moderation is the name of the game.
I dream about the day that people will get excited to eat well.
I try to make everyone as healthy as possible, but you must know how I work!
I hope that I can keep up my healthy lifestyle throughout the years and better yours too!
I am one who makes up everything you eat.

Nutrition I Poem

I am one who loves food and does my best to be healthy at the same time.
I wonder what it would take to change the way people choose to eat.
I hear many fad diets come in and out of the media day after day that end up being only quick fixes.
I see what I am eating everyday on the Nutrition label on the side of many packages.
I want everyone to take the time to make healthier lifestyle choices.
I am one who loves food and does my best to be healthy at the same time.

I pretend that my fruits and veggies are chocolate cake if I’m craving junk food.
I feel full much quicker after eating healthier food.
I touch each food group multiple times a day.
I worry about those that are making themselves sick and in harm’s way by the food choices they are making.
I cry thinking about how many people have made themselves sick simply just by eating too much of the wrong foods.
I am one who loves food and is healthy at the same time.

I understand there is a direct correlation between the Food Guide Pyramid and Nutrition labels.
I say that variety is the spice of life and moderation is the name of the game.
I dream about the day that people will get excited to eat well.
I try to think twice about what ingredients I am putting into my body and get the adequate servings of all food groups I need on a daily basis.
I hope that I can keep up my healthy lifestyle throughout the years.
I am one who loves food and is healthy at the same time.

I Poetry Response

I found I Poetry to be a very effective tool to use in the classroom, no matter the age. I had never been introduced to this strategy until this semester. I have learned of many similar activities, but nothing to this extent. There is so much more detail involved with these poems, whether it be the layout or the actual content. The instructional scaffolding includes appropriateness, support, collaboration, ownership, and internalization. This represents the significance that these poems hold to both teachers and students.
I can see how students would really take to this assignment. They get to learn more about themselves and are given an outline to fill in. As a result, all learners are given the same opportunity to succeed, no matter what type of learner they are. Students are also taught about different type of poetry with these poems as well, since that I Poems are considered to be informational poems. Not only can children learn about the types of poems but also the types of literary mechanisms that many poems consist of including exaggeration, alliteration, onomatopoeia, punctuation, and repetition. These poems also allow children to elaborate the use of their vocabulary skills and can extend their use of both Tier Two and Tier Three words.
Technology is also introduced with the use of I Poems. Showing our class how to upload them to our class blog, or record them using other technological devices. It is necessary for our students to be introduced to all things technological at a young age. Twenty-first century skills are essential for our students to learn and have in hand on a day to day basis. They will need these skills to further their education and succeed in most things they do in life.

Comparison and Contrast between Reciprocal Teaching & Discussion Director

Participating in Reciprocal Teaching and Discussion Director are very similar. This person, usually the instructor until children are taught how to assume these roles, is in charge of keeping the discussion of a group going and advancing. Both roles involve following a certain procedure in order to achieve the a fore mentioned.

Although these two roles are quite similar, they do offer differences in the learning environment. The Discussion director continues discussion of many groups. There is normally one discussion director per group. Reciprocal teaching takes longer and can occur in much bigger groups. Reciprocal teaching follows the four categories mentioned in the article, while being the Discussion Director flows around questions he/she may ask her classmates (generally who, what, when, where, why, and how). While Reciprocal Teaching is a type of teaching, and Discussion Directing is as well, Discussion Directing allows more students to have a responsibility and part of the class instead of simply answering questions than Reciprocal Teaching does.

These methods are both successful strategies to use in a classroom. It gets everyone involved, makes them responsible for their learning, and they also get to switch up roles to this work doesn’t seem to monotonous to children. I can’t wait to implement these strategies in my classrooms!
